The 3rd Korea–Taiwan Religious Exchange Meeting Held at Yeoju Headquarters Temple

On September 30, representatives from eight Taoist temples in Taiwan—Wuyishengmu Temple, Songshan Ciyou Temple, Penghu Tianhou Temple, Anping Kaitai Tianhou Temple, Hongmaogang Chaotian Temple, Fangyuan Baotian Temple, Fengyuan Ciji Temple, and Kaohsiung Fengyun Temple—as well as one broadcasting station, the Broadcasting and Television Station, visited the Yeoju Headquarters Temple of Daesoon Jinrihoe to participate in an exchange meeting aimed at fostering friendship between religious communities in Korea and Taiwan. The event began with a visit to the temple grounds. More than 50 representatives from Taiwanese Taoist religious organizations offered a formal bow at Sungdomun Gate before proceeding past the Bell and Drum Pavilion. They carefully toured Cheonggyetap Pagoda, the Stone Screen, and Simudo, concluding their visit with a devotional observance. During a subsequent meeting with the Director General of Daesoon Jinrihoe, Wu Jin-lian (吳錦蓮), head of Seongmo Temple, remarked, “All the temples represented here today were deeply impressed as we toured the grounds.” She added, “I hope this interreligious connection will develop into a new relationship that can extend throughout the world.” In response, Director General Yoon Eun-do expressed his hope that “our relationship will continue to grow through religious, youth, and academic exchanges.” He added, “This meeting will provide an opportunity for us to understand each other’s cultures and learn the values of gratitude and consideration.” The exchange meeting concluded with a dinner. Representatives from Yeoju Headquarters Temple and the participating Taiwanese temples shared an opportunity to better understand one another’s cultures through religious exchange and reaffirm their common goal of Sangsaeng—mutual beneficence through religion. The participants also expressed their hope that Korea–Taiwan religious exchanges would continue to develop into events that promote harmony and peace by sharing the experiences and wisdom of the religious communities in both countries.

Daejin University’s Department of Acting Arts Wins Grand Prize and Best Director Award at the 5th Cheonan National Youth Theater Festival

Students from Daejin University’s Department of Acting Arts won the Grand Prize and Best Director Award at the 5th Cheonan National Youth Theater Festival for their production of Nine Girls. The play, featuring students Lee Ji-min, Yeo Chae-won, and Shin Hae-eun from the class of 2023, was based on a work by French playwright Sandrine Roche. Originally developed as an on-campus workshop performance during the school break, the production underwent continuous revisions and refinements before reaching the festival’s final stage. Lee Min-ju, a student from the class of 2023 who directed the production, received the Best Director Award for bringing the play’s central themes and tensions between characters to life through the actors’ physical movements, spatial arrangements, and ensemble performance. The students explored the original work’s themes of violence, human relationships, play, and conflict through distinctive theatrical expression and innovative use of space. Lee Ji-min, Yeo Chae-won, and Shin Hae-eun participated in every stage of the production, serving as both performers and crew members. Professor Hwang Yeon-hee remarked, “It is particularly meaningful that the students independently developed a production that began as an on-campus workshop performance and went on to achieve such significant recognition at an external theater festival.”

Chuseok Chiseong (Devotional Offering Ceremoney) Held at Yeoju Headquarters Temple

Chuseok Chiseong (Devotional Offering Ceremoney) was held at Yeoju Headquarters Temple at 1 a.m. on September 25 (the 15th day of the eighth month in the lunar calendar), with approximately 5,600 practitioners in attendance. Chuseok is one of Korea’s major traditional holidays, celebrated on the 15th day of the eighth lunar month. It is also known as Jungchujeol (仲秋節), Gabae (嘉俳), Gawi, or Hangawi. Chuseok Chiseong (Devotional Offering Ceremoney) is a meaningful observance in which practitioners express gratitude for the abundant harvest and reflect on the grace of Sangjenim, who governs and nourishes all things. This year’s ceremony was held without attendance restrictions, allowing many practitioners from across the country to participate together.

Jeongeup Birthplace of Kang Il-sun in Jeungsan: Proposal to Review National Registered Cultural Heritage Status Approved as Submitted

On September 21, Jeonbuk State held the 7th Cultural Heritage Committee meeting of 2026 and approved as submitted the agenda item titled “Review of the Registration of the Birthplace of Kang Il-sun in Jeungsan, Jeongeup, as National Registered Cultural Heritage.” This decision marks a significant step forward in the process of registering the birthplace of Sangjenim as National Registered Cultural Heritage in recognition of its historical and cultural value.
