On August 6 (June 24 of the lunar calendar) at 1:00 AM, the Devotional Offering for the Anniversary of Sangje’s Passing into Heaven was solemnized with approximately 4,900 practitioners attending. June 24 of the lunar calendar in 1909 is the day when Gucheon Sangje passed into Heaven. Sangje descended to this world in 1871 in response to the pleas of divine beings, Buddhas, and Bodhisattvas to save the universe from the brink of total destruction. He then performed the Reordering Work of Heaven and Earth for nine years (1901–1909) before passing into Heaven. Daesoon Academy of Sciences and Daesoon Institute of Religion and Culture at Daejin University jointly attended the 87th Association for the Sociology of Religion (ASR) Annual Meeting held in New York, USA, from August 8 to 10, hosting an independent session on Daesoon Jinrihoe and presenting their research outcomes. Founded in 1938, the Association for the Sociology of Religion is an international academic organization led by around 700 members across continents, aiming to advance the theory and research of the sociology of religion. Under the main theme, "Beyond Binary and Boundaries: Redefining Religion in Uncertain Times," this conference discussed the shifting boundaries of religion in modern society from diverse perspectives, including sacred and secular, faith and belonging, politics, race, gender, migration, technology, and health. The two-day program broadly demonstrated major recent trends in the global sociology of religion through two keynote addresses and more than 150 research presentations. On the morning of August 9, a session titled "Redefining Religion in Uncertain Times: The Position of Daesoon Jinrihoe in Korean Society" took place. Chaired by Professor Holly Folk of Western Washington University, a total of four papers were presented. In this session, Professor Folk reviewed the possibility of Daesoon Jinrihoe's ethics, including Haewon Sangsaeng (Resolution of Grievances for Mutual Beneficence) and Boeun Sangsaeng (Requital of Favors for Mutual Beneficence), expanding beyond a faith community to universal ethics for modern society in her paper "Universal Dimensions of Daesoon Jinrihoe's Religious Ethics." Director Sang-kyu Park of the Daesoon Institute of Religion and Culture and Professor Jin-young Kim of Hankuk University of Foreign Studies presented on "Spatializing Haewon Sangsaeng: Pilgrimage Routes and the Reconfiguration of Religious-Secular Boundaries in Daesoon Jinrihoe."
